Abstract

Keep Your Eye on the Ball: Utilizing the 80/20 Strategy for Effective and Efficient Orthodontic Treatment

by Goryalov Ivan

In today's rapidly evolving orthodontic landscape, we often find ourselves swamped by an influx of new techniques, tools, and 'appliances of the year'. The question is, with such a vast array of options at our disposal, how do we "keep our eye on the ball" and remain effective and efficient in our practice? The 80/20 strategy is our answer, with its core tenet of focusing 80% on the enduring principles, the bedrock of orthodontics, and allocating the remaining 20% to the integration of contemporary orthodontic innovations. The principles of orthodontics serve as the foundation, the bricks, and the roof of our metaphorical house, whereas the innovations represent its interior. The Alexander Discipline, an embodiment of these principles, remains steadfast and guides our practice even amidst continuous advancements. In my lecture, I will present a series of case studies highlighting the effectiveness of treating complex cases using the 80/20 strategy— 80% reliant on the Alexander Discipline, complemented by a 20% incorporation of contemporary orthodontic innovations. The aim is to illustrate that by keeping our eyes on the ball, we can simplify our approach and consistently achieve beautiful, healthy results.
