Abstract

Pre-Prosthetic Orthodontics Essential Prerequisite for Aesthetic and Functional Recovery

by Pavone Antonello Francesco

In adult patients who need to be rehabilitated prosthetically, the position of the teeth within arches must always be considered at the beginning of treatment. Interarch inconsistencies, inclined or rotated teeth, diastemas or excessive root proximity make the prosthetic work complex. If these orthodontic problems are not fixed before, they force the prosthesis to make compromises in terms of shape reducing the aesthetic, biological and mechanical result of the system in the short and long term. In these circumstances, the prosthodontist must create inappropriate profiles of the restorations or have to prepare the teeth excessively, creating a serious biological deterioration. The correct occlusion becomes very complex to achieve and often the postural and functional neutral zone of the patient is invaded without a correct analysis. this presentation explain what the postural and functional neutral zone is and when and why pre-prosthetic orthodontics becomes an essential prerequisite in the rehabilitation processes of adult patients.
