Abstract

Translational Evaluation of the Effect of Orthodontic Treatment Using Invisible Aligners on Hard Tissues, Clinical and Microscopic Analysis

by Butera Andrea

The evolution of orthodontic treatment is marked more and more by an aesthetic factor, and invisible aligners are counted among the most appropriate devices, however, many times patients are not always able to maintain them in the correct way and above all being a therapy that lasts over time, tends to demotivate them and risk factors increase. Therefore it is essential to communicate with the patient so that he can maintain a correct dietary lifestyle and avoid overexposure to excessively sugary substances and/or acidic foods and drinks, because it increases the susceptibility to caries and the risk of erosion. Therefore the dental hygienist has a prominent role in the management of patients with invisible aligners, and within this report we will evaluate which cleansing systems are suitable for maintaining a balanced microbiota during orthodontic therapy, reducing the pathogenic bacterial load, and above all to maintain integrity of the masks themselves in order to be able to play their role based on the period of treatment. The laboratory analyzes will increase the results obtained by validating the clinical assumptions.
