Abstract

Palatal TAD's in Class II Treatment - Indications, Insertion and Mechanics

by Nienkemper Manuel

Palatal TADs have proven to be a relaible anchorage in the maxilla. Depending on the origin of a class II malocclusion palatal TAD's can be of great benefit for the patient. Of course the use of TAD's should be on the basis of a precise diagnosis and treatment planning. Case selection is one key to success. First the insertion protocol is updated and discussed. Should you use digital planning and insertion guides or is manual insertion still appropriate. How should the mechanics be designed to optimise the biomechanics and to avoid side effects? What are the advantages and disadvantages of 3D printing? The major part of the lecture focuses on upper molar distalisation. Depending on the individual finding different mechanics are presented. Some additional cases show the use of TAD's in adult skeletal class II patients in surgical or compesatory treatment. Anchorage mechanics after extraction are presented. Overall the lecture tries to give an overview of the indications, protocols and mechanics for palatal TAD's in class II cases.
