Abstract
Taking Advantage of Dental Implants to Facilitate Difficult Tooth Movement
by Chang Kelvin WC
There are three difficulties orthodontists need to deal with in those adult patients with mutilated dentition: anchorage, vertical support, and chewing function. To solve these three difficulties, we’d better place the implant before the orthodontic bracketing. In today's digital era, we can use orthodontic simulation software to predict the possible orthodontic treatment result and then find the proper implant site. With the assistance of the 3D printing technique, the surgical guide and the provisional crown can be manufactured directly and quickly. Once the implants and provisional crowns are in place, orthodontic treatment can proceed much as in a traditional case. Moreover, the implants provide constant support and stable anchorage to help ensure the teeth move smoothly and predictably. Therefore, with the assistance of simulation software and 3D Printing technology, we can place dental implants early before orthodontic treatment. And these dental implants can provide a stable anchorage, and solid vertical support and improve the chewing function.
