Abstract
Patient Preparation for Orthodontic Implant Therapy
by Genovesi Annamaria
The process of preparing patients for orthodontic implant therapy has been revolutionized in recent years due to discoveries in oral microbiology and minimally invasive clinical approaches. This change has led to a transition from reactive to proactive therapy with a focus on the microbiological balance of the oral cavity. The main goal now is to maintain a balanced oral microbiome to ensure the stability of hard and soft tissues, which are essential for successful orthodontics and implant and prosthetic procedures. This patient preparation is critical as orthodontic therapy is increasingly integrated into complex rehabilitation plans that may include correction of malocclusions and implant rehabilitation. Collaboration between orthodontic specialists, implantologists, and dental hygienists is crucial to comprehensively assess the patient, identify any oral problems, and plan individualized treatment. Ultimately, this new perspective on patient preparation improves the quality of orthodontic therapy and promotes overall oral health.
