Abstract

Past and Present on Palatal Expansion and Deep Bite: What Have we Learned?

by Antognozzi Francesca and Bignotti Denis

Alexander Discipline proposes 20 principles for orthodontists of all times on which to base the development of effective and efficient orthodontic treatment. The goals of modern orthodontic treatment, as well as its planning and development, should not deviate from the solid foundation that Wick Alexander laid for us through his life-long clinical work and research. However, in today's orthodontic world, we are continually being offered more and more state-of-the-art means, which we can offer our patients by reconciling dated, safe and reliable principles and methods in our clinical practice with the use of increasingly up-to-date means. In this way, as young orthodontists, we want to practice orthodontics that allows us to move safely, following validated and now universally approved protocols, achieving the traditional goals of orthodontic treatment according to AD principles, while also incorporating the use of very modern means into our daily clinical practice.
