Abstract

Aligner Therapy: an Evidence Based Approach for Class II Malocclusion

by Lombardo Luca

The most recent articles on the efficacy of aligners in the treatment of class II malocclusion demonstrated that this type of appliance can be used in many clinical cases but it still has some important limitations. Nevertheless, aligners continue to grow in popularity among patients, for whom aesthetic and removable solutions are highly desirable. Traditional fixed appliances are no longer well tolerated by either adults or young patients, and it is therefore vital to find ways to meet their expectations. In this lecture it will be shown how aligners can successfully resolve simple and even complex class II cases. The management of the vertical, transversal and sagittal components of class II malocclusion by aligners will be discussed even in association to skeletal anchorage for severe narrow maxilla, crowding and anteroposterior discrepancy.
