Abstract

Orthodontic Aligners: Enhancing Efficiency and Predictability Across Diverse Patient Populations

by Kristensen Kasper Dahl

Orthodontic aligners are becoming increasingly popular among orthodontic professionals, reflecting their growing usage in modern orthodontic practice. They are no longer limited to minor teeth straightening in adults; they are now being employed for a broader range of patients. Skilled orthodontists can utilize aligners effectively to achieve favorable outcomes. Nevertheless, a fundamental question persists: "How well can aligners deliver efficient and predictable results for various types of patients?" Learning to use aligners efficiently differs significantly from mastering fixed braces for more complex cases. The distinction between the effectiveness and efficiently of aligners versus fixed braces is intricate and warrants thorough exploration, which is the central focus of this lecture. During this lecture, we will explore strategies to avoid less-than-ideal treatment methods, with a specific emphasis on consistently achieving positive results within a reasonable timeframe. This will satisfy both orthodontists and their patients. We will delve into the learning curve associated with using aligners and highlight common mistakes that may arise when considering aligners for comprehensive orthodontic treatments. Furthermore, I will provide practical, evidence-based guidelines to streamline the process of setting up cases with aligners, enhancing both the efficiency and predictability of orthodontic treatment using aligners. This will empower you to consistently achieve outstanding outcomes in the patients treated with aligners according to what you are confident in treating.
