Abstract

Pancherz Was Right!

Pancherz was right: - To use Herbst appliance therapy as a standardized and predictable therapy that does not require patient cooperation; - when he perceived that tooth movements are to be considered as side effects that interfere with jaw advancement; - when he noticed that Herbst therapy is stable, provided a dental class I is achieved and bad habits are controlled. For these reasons, Herbst appliance therapy is currently used worldwide by 14% of orthodontists. In this report it will be described how, following Pancherz's insights, with skeletal anchorage and telescopic Herbst it has been possible to overcome some of the problems shown by this technique.
