Clinical Management of the Orthodontic Patient; Survey of Professionals' Habits
Orthodontic appliances increase biofilm accumulation by expanding plaque retention sites. Enamel demineralization and periodontal inflammation have been regarded as the most prevalent consequences of biofilm formation among orthodontic patients. To date, there are various procedures and indications on the treatments of these diseases. For this reason, professionals can make use of different technologies and protocols to control bacterial biofilm. . The aim of this presentation is to share the protocols and technologies adopted by dental professionals to maintain good oral health in orthodontic patients before, during and after treatment.
These results show equivalent responses between dentists and dental hygienists, with a greater tendency for most dental hygienists to personalize treatment. Remineralization technologies and protocols are chosen according to patient attributes. During professional oral hygiene sessions, the technologies most commonly used before, during, and after therapy are ultrasonic scaler and air flow powders. Mouthwashes and toothpastes are customized and shared with the patient.
